Music Education Hubs
Music Education Hubs are groups of organisations – such as local authorities, schools, other hubs, art organisations, community or voluntary organisations – working together to create joined-up music education provision, respond to local need and fulfil the objectives of the Hub, as set out in the National Plan for Music Education.
Music Education Hubs work collectively to ensure that all children and young people can discover the power of music both inside and outside the classroom, providing opportunities for them to:
- learn a musical instrument
- learn to sing
- create their own music
- make music with others as part of ensembles, bands, and choirs
- access inspirational performances and musical experiences
- progress their musical interests and potential through local opportunities and by connecting with national opportunities and provision
Music Education Hubs also support schools, teachers, and the music education workforce, by providing CPD, networking, and training.
Hubs are coordinated by the Hub lead organisation, which takes on responsibility for the funding and governance of the Hub. The Department for Education funds their work.

The power of music to change lives: a national plan for music education
The national plan for music education sets out the government’s vision to enable all children and young people in England to:
- learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together
- have the opportunity to progress their musical interests and talents, including professionally
The plan sets out how we will achieve this vision by 2030, emphasising the importance of partnerships between education settings, music hubs, music organisations working with young people and the music industry.
It builds on the model music curriculum and the original national plan for music education, published in 2011.
Information for parents and young people on what the national plan for music education means for children and young people is also available.
